Aqueduct hosted a slew of stakes races this weekend. It was a huge weekend for trainer Mark Casse and jockey Joel Rosario as well, as the team picked up several stakes wins. Here's your weekend stakes update!
$150,000 Artie Schiller Stakes
VOODOO SONG and ABIDING STAR battled out a half-mile in :47.09. Meanwhile, CURLIN'S HONOR ran eighth in a field of nine 13 1/2 lengths back after going three-wide in the first turn. CARIBOU CLUB sat in fifth and go the jump in the upper stretch, taking the lead. CURLIN'S HONOR slipped through on the rail taking the inside route at the eighth pole and rallied for the win by a neck covering the mile in 1:35.11. CARIBOU CLUB finished second followed by FRONTIER MARKET in third three lengths back.
CURLIN'S HONOR is owned by a partnership between John Oxley and Mike Hall with trainer Mark Casse. He sold for $1.5 million as a 2-year-old at the Fasig-Tipton Midatlantic Sale in May 2017.
$100,000 Atlantic Beach
Mark Casse had another great stakes win at Aqueduct over the weekend as well with JACK AND NOAH. JACK AND NOAH went to the front to set the pace with fractions of :22.02 and:44.90. He covered the six furlongs of firm turf in 1:09.11 with a 1 3/4 length victory over EMBOLDEN. EMBOLDEN was bottlenecked coming out of the gate and rallied for second over the 32-1 longshot SO STREET.
$100,000 Pumpkin Pie Stakes
SAGUARO ROW stayed on the outside and in the clear as he came down the backstretch. Rallying four-wide at the top of the lane, he passed the pacesetter PHILANTHROPIC at the sixteenth pole to take the win by 4 1/4 lengths. PHILANTHROPIC held on to second by three-quarters of a length over PINK SANDS, who made a late run. This was the fourth win in 11 starts for SAGUARO ROW.
$100,000 Steward Manor Stakes
Saving ground as the tipped off the rail, FLY SO PRETTY ran in the fifth path as they turned for home. KARAK was fourth early took the lead in the last eighth-mile and was briefly overcome by MISS J MCKAY. But FLY SO PRETTY flew to take the win. MISS J MCKAY held on for second followed by KARAK two and a quarter lengths back.
$150,000 Staten Island
OUR SUPER NOVA sat 5 1/2 lengths back off the pace set by CARRERA CAT, who posted a slow :48.31 half mile. Alvarado put OUR SUPER NOVA wide and in the clear and came four-wide at the lane. FAIR REGIS made his move turning for home, but OUR SUPER NOVA outran him to take the win in 1:25.91 over the seven furlongs. FAIR REGIS finished second by a nose over MY ROXY GIRL.
