Here's a look at what's been happening in horse racing this week!
Royal Ascot Kicks Off
The Royal Ascot kicked off Wednesday and American viewers can get in on the action via the NBC Sports Network, as they are offering full coverage of the day's events. So far, MAVEN, the AMERICAN PHAROAH colt, has been scratched due to the soft going of the English course.
Ellis Park Sold for the Second Time This Year
In the coming days, a subsidiary of Laguna Development Corporation of Albuquerque, New Mexico, is expected to finalize an $11 million deal to purchase Ellis Park in Henderson, Kentucky. The colt was sold last summer to the Saratoga Casino and Hospitality Group of Saratoga Springs.
In an effort to boost the under-served wagering market in Evansville, Indiana, the new owners have outlined a $60 million investment plan. The current owner has already invested in the track by demolishing old barns, resurfacing the main track and improving drainage. Future plans include a new historical gaming facility, widening the turf course, installing lights, improving the barns and adding restaurants.
Delaware Park to Offer Four MATCH Series Races July 13th
Delaware Park will bring back their MATCH Series this racing season on July 13th. Eight horses will have the opportunity to qualify. As part of Delaware Handicap Day, the track will offer four $100,000 MATCH stakes races:
To be eligible, a horse must start at least three MATCH series races. For each division, the following bonus money is available based on points earned:
Breeder's Cup Classic Rankings Updated
After the Stephen Foster, SEEKING THE SOUL jumped up to the number 3 spot in the Classic rankings. MCKINZIE and THUNDER SNOW proceed him. After the third spot, the line up includes CATHOLIC BOY, VINO ROSSO, GIFT BOX, OMAHA BEACH, GUNNEVERA, QUIP and WAR OF WILL.
