From Santa Anita, to the Fair Grounds to Gulfstream, here's your weekend stakes recap!
$200,000 Lecomte Stakes (G3) at the Fair Grounds
BANGO and SHASHASHAKEMEUP had the early speed from their outside posts in the Lecomte at Fair Grounds in New Orleans. As the pair battled for the early lead on the backstretch, Leparoux waited patiently in 11th with ENFORCEABLE. SHASHASHAKEMEUP had the lead at the top of the stretch with MR. MONOMOY moving through the inside. In a swift move from the outside. ENFORCEABLE flew past them at the eighth pole and kept a clear lead as they went to the wire, overtaking the late-charging SILVER STATE for the win. SILVER STATE held on for second followed by MR. MONOMOY in third.
The Lecomte is a Road to the Kentucky Derby race, giving ENFORCEABLE 10 points towards the big day in May. ENFORCEABLE is owned by John Oxley and trained by Mark Casse.
$150,000 Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf Stakes at Gulfstream
STARSHIP JUBILEE kicked off the day at Gulfstream Park when she went wire to wire to score in the Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf Stakes for the third consecutive time! The seven-year-old mare broke midpack, but moved up to the lead quickly and took control. SWEET HITCH HIKER and VOW TO RECOVER trailed, tracked by BEAUTIFUL LOVER. With fractions of :25.64, :50.77 and 1:14.66, the mare slowly increased her lead to two and a half lengths as they exited the final turn. BEAUTIFUL LOVER moved three-wide in the lane and made their mover for the leader, but came too late. STARSHIP JUBILEE took the win three and a quarter lengths ahead of BEAUTIFUL LOVER in second, followed by VOW TO RECOVER in third. The mare is the first to win three consecutive Sunshine Millions bumping her record to 15-5-3 in 33 starts with over $1.2 million in earnings.
$200,000 Sunshine Millions Classic Stakes
NOBLE DRAMA settled in the back of the pack and slowly made his way forward down the backstretch. SALUTE WITH HONOR and SQUEEZADIOS battled as leaders as they moved around the first turn. NOBLE DRAMA picked up the pace as the field exited the backstretch and was within a half-length of SQUEEZEADIOS in third as the reached the top of the stretch. Going four wide, NOBLE DRAMA continued to advance. RED CRESCENT made a move for the leader going three-wide. RED CRESCENT and NOBLE DRAMA battled it out to the wire with NOBLE DRAMA getting the win. RED CRESCENT finished second followed by SQUEEZEADIOS.
$101,000 Astra Stakes (G3T) at Santa Anita
LOSTINTRANZLATION took the lead after breaking from the rail and ran quick fractions of :24.48, :48.20 and 1:12.96. TINY TINA, MS PEINTOUR, and HEATHERS GREY ran bunched behind her. As they entered the top of the stretch, MS PEINTOUR made a move on the outside and inched by slowly, but then released her speed to take the win in 2:26.71 on firm turf. TINY TINA finished second as the 7-5 favorite ahead of SIBERIAN IRIS.
