$125,000 Rood & Riddle Dowager Stakes (G3T) at Keeneland
In a 12 horse field, GENTLE RULER broke from the 3 spot as the 2-1 favorite in the 1 1/2 mile turf race for fillies and mares. She settled in eighth midpack while BEACH FLOWER set moderate fractions of :26.10 and :52.42, fading. SEA DREAM moved up from in second. With a quarter mile to go, GENTLE RULER made her move, flying past her rivals to win by 2 1/2 lengths with a final time of 2:31.95 on firm turf. ELYSEA'S WORLD rallied to place second from tenth followed by DECORATING in third.
$200,000 Athenia Stakes (G3T) at Belmont
In another turf race for fillies and mares, XENOBIA liked the yielding inner turf at Belmont after a day of drizzle and rain. Trying to keep her rating in third, Velazquez was unable to hold the filly back allowing her to beat the field by six lengths in the six furlong race. SWEET BYE AND BYE finished second followed by ANDINA DEL SUR a half length back.
$125,000 CAD Ontario Fashion Stakes (G3) at Woodbine
JEAN ELIZABETH sprinted to the front to set the pace with fast fractions of :22.39 and :45.07. SUMMER SANDY came within a half length of the leader stalking. SPECIAL RELATIVITY took the third spot on the rail, hustling behind. JEAN ELIZABETH continued her gate to wire run despite pressure from SPECIAL RELATIVITY in the final furlongs, managing to cut the margin between the two by less than one length by the wire, but she didn't have enough to snatch the win. She did hold on for second followed by HEAVENLY HILL in third.
$150,000 Maryland MIllion Classic at Laurel Park
FOREST FIRE made quick work of the Maryland Million Classic for trainer Jason Service at Laurel Park. He squeaked out a half-length victory over PRENDIMI. PRENDIMI set the pace with a :49.25 half mile and a 1:13.40 mile. FOREST FIRE pressed pace and was able to get ahead by a neck at the wire to take the win. PRENDIMI held on for second. TAPPIN CAT was 2 1/4 lengths back in third.
$306,450 Empire Classic Handicap at Belmont Park
It was Empire Showcase Day with a full card of races featuring New York-breds. The richest of the series was the Empire Classic. MR. BUFF pressed the pace for the opening quarter mile after a stumble at the start. NOT THAT BRADY took the lead at the half mile mark and extended his advantage and crossed the wire in 1:48.65. DYNAMAX PRIME crossed the wire in second followed by PAT ON THE BACK in third place.
$250,000 Lexus Raven Run Stakes (G2) at Keeneland
BELL'S THE ONE was bumped coming out of the gates in the seven furlong Raven Run Stakes. IRISH MISCHIEF took the lead and set the pace with a :22.81 opening quarter. INDIAN PRIDE passed her at the half with a time of :45.33. BELL'S THE ONE sat last in 10th place. FIRST STAR moved to the front after running in fourth, but BELL'S THE ONE had gas in the tank as they turned for home. Moving in the six path as the entered the lane, she fired down the stretch to win by 1 1/4 lengths with a final time of 1:22.97. FIRST STAR finished second with INDIAN PRIDE 2 1/4 lengths back in third.
