It's a busy day of Horse Racing on this Presidents' Day. In honor of our Commander in Chiefs, we are going to have a little fun and lay out some bets using Presidents on our money. Since Gulfstream has nearly a full card of non-graded stakes races, let's see if we can piece together some winning tickets using 20 cents more than a Ulysses S. Grant ($50).
Race 1 - $50,000 LITTLE MAGICIAN STAKES
Although we don't have MONTCLAIR (PP: 3 ML 8/5) as a Best Bet, let's single him and see if we can hit a $1 (George Washington) Trifecta.
Suggested Wager: $1 Trifecta: 3/5,7,8/3,7,8 = $6
Race 2 - $50,000 LADY BIRD STAKES
Race two starts the $0.50 (John F. Kennedy) Pick 4. We like two horses in leg number one: STARSHIP REINA (PP: 2 ML 9/5) and MISSCHIEF MAAS (PP: 3 ML 8/5).
Suggested Wager: $0.50 Pick 4 - 2,3/4,5,7/4,6/2 = $6; Total Wagered: $12
Race 3 - $50,000 ROUGH AND READY STAKES
Since we already have some action in the third thanks to the Pick 4, we are just going to back up our bet with a $1 (George Washington) exacta saver using our fourth pick, DONJI (PP: 1 ML 6-1).
Suggested Wager: $1 Exacta 1/4,5,7 = $3; Total Wagered: $15
Race 4 - $50,000 TRUST BUSTER STAKES
We have two Best Bets coming up in races 5 and 6. With that in mind, let's roll with a $2 (Thomas Jefferson) Pick 3.
Suggested Wager: $2 Pick 3 - 3,4,6/2/6 = $6; Total Wagered: $21
Race 5 - $60,000 MARY TODD STAKES
As we mentioned in race four and alluded to in race two, LUCKY LONG (PP: 2 ML 3-1) is one of today's Gulfstream Park Best Bets. The five-year-old mare is already singled in two bets; so, we are going to roll with a backdoor exacta/trifecta combo:
Suggested Wagers: $1 Exacta 1,3,7/2 = $3 and $0.50 Trifecta 1,3,7/1,3,7/2 = $3; Total Wagered: $27
Race 6 - $60,000 RAIL SPLITTER STAKES
Our second Best Bet of the day at Gulfstream is DUPREE (PP: 6 ML 5-1). We are going to roll with the same strategy as race 5 since he is singled as the anchor in our race four Pick 3.
Suggested Wagers: $1 Exacta 3,4,7/2 = $3 and $0.50 Trifecta 3,4,7/3,4,7/2 =$3; Total Wagered: $33
Race 7 - $60,000 MRS. PRESIDENTRESS STAKES
Lucky seven offer some value with a 12 horse field and a lukewarm 5/2 morning-line favorite ITSMYLUCKYCHARM (PP: 8). We have some longer shots in our selections. It's time for a $0.10 (Franklin Roosevelt) Superfecta.
Suggested Wager: $0.10 Superfecta 6,8/4,6,8,12/4,6,8,9,11,12/4,6,8,9,11,12 = $7.20; Total Wagered: $40.20.
Race 8 - $60,000 QUEEN MOTHER STAKES
Our third and final Gulfstream Best Bet comes into play, MIDTWON ROSE (PP: 5 ML 3-1). Considering 3-1 are the lowest odds in our top four picks, let's go with an exacta.
Suggested Wagers: $1 Exacta 5/3,10,11 and 3,10,11/5 = $6; Total Wagered: $46.20
Race 9 - $60,000 SAGE OF MONTICELLO STAKES
Since five of our six selections are grouped into the BLACK Horse Racing Roulette bet, we'll bet Black.
Suggested Wager: $4 Horse Racing Roulette, BLACK. Total Wagered: $50.20.
That's it for our $50ish budget. Hopefully, some of our Presidential Plays turn into winners and some good Gulfstream Park fun for a Ulysses S. Grant and two Franklin Roosevelts. There are still three races to go if we got some of our suggested wagers right.
